Beer Monger's Picks For Seattle Beer Week 2012



Seattle Beer Week 2012 kicks off tomorrow!  Are you ready?  There are well over 150 events listed at various locations throughout Seattle and the Puget Sound, but you'll need a plan of attack if you want to keep them all straight and hit the events you really want.

Here are my picks for Seattle Beer Week 2012, and the events I plan on attending myself:

Thursday, May 10, 2012:


5:00PM

 Seattle Beer Week Kickoff Part 1 at Elysian Brewing Company on Capitol Hill (1221 E Pike St., Seattle, WA).  Join everyone at Elysian for the tappling of the Official Seattle Beer Week Beer, Split Shot, which will be tapped at 6:00PM.  Let the festivities begin!


7:00PM


Seattle Beer Week Kickoff Part 2 at Pyramid Breweries' Seattle Alehouse (1201 First Ave. S, Seattle, WA).  Stop 2 on the opening night pub-crawl festivities for Seattle Beer Week 2012.


8:30PM


Seattle Beer Week Kickoff Part 3 at Naked City Brewery & Taphouse (8564 Greenwood Ave. N, Seattle, WA).  Stop 3 on the opening night pub-crawl festivities for Seattle Beer Week 2012. Come rub elbows with some of the stars of the brewing world.


9:30PM


Seattle Beer Week Kickoff Part 4 at The Pine Box (1600 Melrose Ave., Seattle, WA).  "Come put a nail in yer coffin" at the final stop of the opening night pub-crawl festivities for Seattle Beer Week 2012.  


Friday, May 11, 2012:


11:00AM

'Back In Black' Stout Fest at Brouwer's Cafe (400 N 35th St., Seattle WA). This event has been billed as "A night of the biggest of the big, and the blackest of the black Stouts from around the way."  If you love stout - this is an event no to be missed!


4:00PM


Double Mountain vs. Terminal Gravity at The Noble Fir (5316 Ballard Ave. NW, Seattle, WA).  A Double Mountain vs. Terminal Gravity tap takeover.  


Firestone Kick Off Party at Malt & Vine (16851 Redmond Way, Redmond, WA).  The newly released Wookey Jack, a rare firkin of Dry Hopped Double Jack, 14th Anniversary, 15th Anniversary and Parabola all on draft.  Firestone brewery reps will be on hand as well.  This is one of the few events I'll be attending outside of Seattle.


Saturday, May 12, 2012:


11:00AM


Beer Bus Crawl at Beer Authority (12716 Lake City Way NE, Seattle, WA).  "Beer Bus from The Beer Authority to 7 Seas Brewing in Gig Harbor, Silver City Brewery in Bremerton and Sound Brewery in Poulsbo then back across from Kingston to Edmonds. At each brewery or tasting room will include 3 or 4 tasters of beer, this is a chartered bus with a bathroom and you will be able to drink beer on the bus too."  There are a few other events I'll be missing to do this one - but it sounds like fun & I won't have to worry about driving.  That's a safe way to go. 


6:30PM


Stone Brewing Company at Dog & Pony Alehouse (351 Park Ave. N, Renton, WA).  "Weather permitting our sun/dog deck will also be open. There will be seven Stone beers on tap including Stone Imperial Russian Stout, Stone Double Dry Hopped Ruination IPA, and Double Bastard Ale 2011. Todd Walton, Northwest Regional Brewery Rep for Stone Brewing Co. will be there to help host the event." 


Sunday, May 13, 2012:


HOP IPA Brunch at Elysian Tangletown (2106 N 55th St., Seattle, WA).  Weekend brunch at Elysian with 10 IPAs on tap with suggested breakfast pairings. Not a bad way to kick off my Sunday. 


Iron Brewer Tripple Header at Beveridge Place Pub (6413 California Ave. SW, Seattle, WA).  According to Beveridge Place Pub: WE choose the secret ingredient, THEY brew the beer, YOU decide the winner!
Black Raven vs Odin – blackberry & lavender
Seven Seas vs Port Townsend – coconut & lemongrass
Silver City vs Airways – apricot & almond


Monday, May 14, 2012:


2:00PM


Big Time First Ever Barrel Release at Big Time Brewery & Alehouse (4133 University Way NE, Seattle, WA).  Big Time's first ever bourbon barrel aged stout, "Heavenly Bourbon" will be released.  This is a 9% stout aged for 8 months in a Heavenly Hills bourbon barrel.  This beer will only be available at Big Time and a very limited number of growlers will be filled.  


6:00PM


Big Sky Bull Riding at Brouwer's Cafe (400 N 35th St., Seattle, WA).  A mechanical bull inside of Brouwer's Cafe?  That's right!  Oh the madness!  I don't know if I'll attempt to ride or just observe the insanity.  This should be good.


Tuesday, May 15, 2012:


All Day


Extreme Growler Smack Down at Super Deli Mart (9051 35th Ave. SW, Seattle, WA).  Great growler deals on organic beers from Hopworks Urban Brewery.  1 Growler fill = $10. 2 Growler fills = $9 each.  3 Growler fills = $8 each. and so on!  Grab those growlers and come on down. 


5:00PM


Beer & Burger Battle at Brouwer's Cafe (400 N 35th St., Seattle, WA).  5 World Class breweries and 5 World Class Beers battle to the death!  "In the end, there can be only one!"  Let the battle begin.  I'll only be able to hit up this event briefly - due to the next event on the list starting at 7:00. 


7:00PM


Firestone & Fran's Beer & Chocolate at The Pine Box (1600 Melrose Ave., Seattle, WA).  A night of great beers and great chocolates.  David Walker of Firestone Walker and  Andrina Bigelow of Fran's Chocolates will be on hand for this 10 course pairing, featuring a photography exhibit by Rawi Nanakul of Bokeh Box Media.  This is a limited seating, tickted event.  It may be full by now, but you can email Ian at The Pine Box for reservations: ian@pineboxbar.com.  


12 Pack At The Troll at The Troll (N36th St. & Troll Ave. - Under the bridge!)  Flash mob at the Troll!  Bring some cans.  Tell you friends!


Wednesday, May 16, 2012:

Tap Your Lunch With Pike Brewing at Elliott Bay Pizza & Pub (800 164th St. SE, Suite L, Seattle, WA).  Laura Stoudt will be on hand with Pike owners, Rose Ann and Charles Finkel for a luncheon at Elliott Bay Pizza & Pub.  


4:00PM


IPA Fest Championships at Cooper's Alehouse (8065 Lake City Way NE, Seattle, WA).  Cooper's 10th Annual IPA Fest concluded this past Thursday (4/26) at Cooper's.  Now, the winners of the four Double IPA blind tastings will go head-to-head to find out which one comes out on top.  This will be a semi-blind tasting, as you'll already know the four beers competing - even if you won't know which is which while you're judging. 


6:00PM


Now For Something Completely Different - Sean Paxton & Firestone Dinner at Brouwer's Cafe (400 N 35th St., Seattle WA).  This will be a 8-course, 12-beer dinner from renowned 'Homebrew Chef' Sean Paxton with beers from Firestone Walker Brewing Company (one of my favorites).  Tickets for this event are nearly sold out!  For a look at last year's amazing Paxton Firestone dinner, click HERE

Alpha Acid Overload at Brave Horse Tavern (310 Terry Ave. N, Seattle, WA). "A Mouthful of Bud- with Double Mountain, Schooner Exact, and Everybody’s Brewing."


5:00PM


The Art Of Arrogance at The Pine Box (1600 Melrose Ave., Seattle, WA).  "
Come for the Capitol Hill Artwalk, Stay for the specials on Stone Brewing Co. Beers.  Featured beers will include:

The Wall Of Casks at Latona Pub (6423 Latona Ave. NE, Seattle, WA).  "We will showcase some of your favorite beers on cask. The brewers will be attending and the freshest beer will be tapped. Join the fun."


Friday, May 18, 2012:


All Day


Bodacious Beverages Brewfest at Beveridge Place Pub (6413 California Ave. SW, Seattle, WA).  Per BPP: "As many unusual beers as we can come up with. Barrel-aged, hoppy, sour, spicy, etc. Taster trays encouraged!"


5:30PM


HUB Invasion and Crawfish Boil at The Burgundian (2253 N 56th St, Seattle, WA).  Hopworks Urban Brewery is up from Portland to take over The Burgundian for the night and 60lbs of crawfish has been ordered.  Hurry down before Matt Bonney eats it all!


Saturday, May 19, 2012:


10:00AM


Kegs N' Eggs Featuring Pike at Brave Horse Tavern (310 Terry Ave. N, Seattle, WA).  A kegs n eggs brunch pairing featuring Pike Brewing Company.


2:00PM


Pizza & Pints With Mr. Fal Allen at Beer Authority (12716 Lake City Way NE, Seattle, WA).  Anderson Valley Brewing presents this event with their Head Brewer, Fal Allen.  From 2-4PM, enjoy pizza and beers on the patio with Mr. Fal Allen.  Some special beers from Anderson Valley's cellar will be on hand as well as some AVBC favorites. 


Sunday, May 20, 2012:


All Day


Super Deli 3rd Anniversary And Customer Appreciation BBQ atSuper Deli Mart (9051 35th Ave. SW, Seattle, WA). Super Deli's 3rd Anniversary blowout!  Lots of special beers form New Belguim will be pouring, along with good food and good people to hang with.  Don't miss it. 


12:00PM


2nd Annual Free BBQ SBW Afterparty at Fremont Brewing Company (3409 Woodland Park Ave. N, Seattle, WA).  You've survived Seattle Beer Week 2012.  Now celebrate with free BBQ between noon at 3PM.


1:00PM


Rare Dogfish Head Night at Beer Junction (4511 California Ave. SW, Seattle, WA).  You've survived Seattle Beer Week 2012.  Now celebrate with free BBQ between noon at 3PM.


Everyday Events:


All Day


Four Roses Boilermakers at The Pine Box (1600 Melrose Ave., Seattle, WA).  Specials all week long on boilermakers with Four Roses Bourbon.  Also, grab a Elysian Split Shot (The official Seattle Beer Week 2012 beer) through a Randall stuffed with Four Roses Bourbon soaked oak chips.


Squirreled Away at The Dray (708 NW 65th St., Seattle, WA).  All week long, The Dray will be featuring rare, off-season and cellared beers fom their 'secret stash'.  You'll have to drop by to find out what's pouring.


So there you have it - my picks for Seattle Beer Week 2012.  I'll see you out and about around the city.
